  1. ?

    What is a doula?
A birth doula provides emotional, physical, and educational support throughout pregnancy, during labor and birth, and postpartum.
  2. ?

Which doula will be at my birth?
All of the Omaha Birth & Babies doulas take their own clients and plan to attend each of their clients births. However, we all know birth (and life in general) is unpredictable. For this reason the OBB doulas work very closely with each other and if your doula can not attend your birth or needs to be relieved for any reason you can rest assured you will have another quality OBB doula by your side.
  3. ?

Will a doula take the place of my partner?
Nope!-and we would never want to! Often times, the birth partner wants to help- but doesn't know how. A doula is there to guide the partner in how they can best support the laboring mother. She will also allow the partner bathroom, sleep and meal breaks without leaving the mother alone.
  4. ?

Can a doula support a cesarean birth?
The bulk of a doula's support for a cesarean birth is prior to the birth and also postpartum. Prior to birth, the doula will help you develop your cesarean birth plan, making sure you know ALL of your options. She will also help with recovery and physical support after birth.
  5. ?

Can a doula support an epidural birth?
Totally! Epidurals have a reputation for slowing labor down, leading to both unnecessary and necessary interventions. In this case, we have a lot of tricks up our sleeve to assist in the progression of labor- so that those interventions are much less likely to occur.
  6. ?

What's the difference between a birth doula and a midwife?
A birth doula offers non-medical support and her primary focus is the education, comfort and emotional well-being of the mom. A midwife's primary responsibility is medical. She is there to ensure the safety and health of both mom and baby.
